Allahabad cops ride bike on vendor's chest

A policeman has been caught on camera riding his motorbike on the chest of a vegetable vendor in Allahabad as other policemen and bystanders stood and watched. The incident took place on August 18 outside the Rambagh railway station. The vendor, Rohit Kesarwani, claims that the constable had asked him to move his cart and demanded a bribe. He alleges that when he refused, the cop assaulted him, beat him with a stick and threw him to the ground. The vendor alleges that the cop then rode the front wheel of his bike on his chest. Despite the visual evidence, the police have said that no such incident took place and that a photographer present there staged the whole thing for the camera.

Mulayam demands for judge's review on coal scam

Mulayam Singh Yadav led a protest at Parliament, demanding a Supreme Court judge supervise an investigation into coal-gate scam. sources in the government say that it is considering whether a judge should review the allocation of coal blocks to private firms.  The manner in which those coal fields were assigned led to windfall benefits in crores of rupees according to the state auditor. The opposition BJP is adamant that the Prime Minister must resign, otherwise it says it will disrupt Parliament as it has for eight days now.  Outside Parliament, Mr Yadav led representatives of the Left and the Telugu Desam Party, stating that the disruption of Parliament must end. In Mr Yadav's call for a judicial inquiry, political parties see a compromise between the BJP and the government which could end the paralysis of Parliament.  Law Minister Salman Khurshid indicated that the government may not be entirely opposed to Mr Yadav's suggestion.

Shirish Kunder gets ‘Kick’ed out?

Earlier this year, editor-director Shirish Kunder got the better of Shah Rukh Khan in a mid-night brawl and now the ‘Joker’ director seems to have irked Salman Khan. No wonder, Shirish is certainly facing the toughest phase of his Bollywood career!
Kunder was supposed to direct ‘Kick’ produced by Sajid Nadiadwala starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. But buzz has it that he has been ousted from the project, that reportedly happens to be the producer’s brainchild.
‘Tiger’ Salman Khan, however, took to Twitter to clarify that Kunder had other projects in hand and hence he decided not to direct ‘Kick’.
Salman tweeted, “No that`s nt true . shirish left the film . He is working on sm thing else . Ho gaya clear ? Good ! Challo bye . Take care guys n nice(sic).”
Shirish has also apparently had a tiff with Akshay Kumar over ‘Joker, which eventually forced the latter and actress Sonakshi Sinha to withdraw themselves from the film’s promotions.
‘Joker’ that released last Friday turned out to be a Box Office dud!

I feel I am growing as an actor: Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi is on a roll post the critical and commercial success of films like `Shanghai`, `Jannat 2` and the actor says he wants to have a consistent run at the Box Office.
In the recent past, Emraan has set the cash registers ringing with several hits like `Once Upon a Time in Mumbai`, `Murder 2`, `The Dirty Picture`, `Jannat 2`.
He has films with Karan Johar (untitled), Vishal Bhardwaj (`Ek Thi Daayan`), Rajkumar Gupta`s (`Ghanchakkar`) in his kitty.
“I feel I am growing as an actor. I want to be a consistent actor. If one or two films get Rs 100 crore and the others bring in small business of just Rs five crore, then one is not left with an average performance,” Emraan told reporters in an interview.
“I want to have a consistent run rate at the box office. It will be good if every film is doing a minimum Rs 50 crore business. The money keeps coming in consistently,” he said.
At a time when the position of an actor in B-town is governed by the number of Rs 100 crore films he has to his credit, Emraan says he would not compromise with the script to achieve the golden benchmark.
“Why Rs 100 crore, I want to be a part of the Rs 500 crore member club. My biggest hit has till now grossed about Rs 60-70 crore,” Emraan said.
“But I don`t want to do a sub-standard script because it will be grossing Rs 100 crore. I have few scripts where I felt that they could do that kind of business. But I don`t understand that. So it will be on my own terms. If a film touches that mark, good, if it does not, I am fine with it,” the actor said.
Considering his Box Office track record and mass appeal, Emraan has been put in `A` list category of actors, but he insists that he does not believe in the league.
“I don`t want to get stereotyped of what a star or superstar is… I want to break this mould. So I don`t believe in this whole term of `A` or `B` league of actors. I don`t understand the concept of league and I am not part of any,” Emraan stressed.
“I don`t understand the concept of big or small movie. Films are interesting. There are good and bad films. Sometimes big budget flicks also don`t do well. As an actor one can gauge his or her success by Box Office results. And I want my films to do well,” he added.
Emraan`s latest in the offing, `Raaz 3`, directed by Vikram Bhatt, revolves around the downfall of an actress and how she resorts to black magic to secure her position in the industry.
Starring Emraan, Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta in the lead, the film is produced by Mahesh Bhatt-Mukesh Bhatt and releases on September 7.

Himesh Reshamiya turns producer for Akshay Kumar’s film

Although Akshay Kumar’s Joker has not opened to great box office collections, he needed worry too much if Himesh Reshammiya’s comments are anything to go by. According to the super-hit music director and singer, “Akshay is extraordinary in the title role of Khiladi”. And why shouldn’t he be? With a record of previous box office successes using the ‘Khiladi’ title (Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi) and Himesh currently rocking the charts again (Bodyguard, Bol Bachchan), there is no doubt that this will be one knock out combination.
If you didn’t know already Himesh is not only producing Khiladi 786, but has also written the story, composed the music and will be acting alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. A confident Himesh shared “The story is nice and fascinating…the music will be very good and audience will love it!” Further, the film is being directed by debutant Ashish R Mohan, who was the assistant director in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal’ series, thus giving us all a flavour of what to expect.
Here’s hoping that Khiladi 786 repeats the success of Rowdy Rathod, when it releases on 7th December.

Steps soon to make AC buses profitable in Hyderabad

The expert committee which went to Bangalore to study commuters’ response to the air-conditioned city buses there, has completed its study and will submit its report to the APSRTC management here in a few days.
The AP State Road Transport Corporation is operating 80 air-conditioned buses in Hyderabad and Secunderabad but is incurring losses due to poor occupancy of the buses.
The occupancy is 75 per cent in Bangalore and 45 per cent in Hyderabad. Because of the low occupancy, the APSRTC is incurring a loss of Rs 4,000 a day on each bus and a cumulative loss of Rs 3.20 lakh a day on all the 80 buses.
The monthly loss is touching the Rs 1-crore mark which the organisation cannot bear. The corporation has already accumulated losses to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore.
RTC officials are unable to know why commuters in Hyderabad do not prefer AC buses though fares here are lower than in Bangalore.
The AC bus fare in Hyderabad is Rs 1.25 per kilometre and in Bangalore it is Rs 2. The RTC management has sent three officers to Bangalore to study how AC buses are running in profits and why people prefer AC buses there. The team completed its study in three days and returned to Hyderabad and are finalising its report.
According to an officer, most of the software employees and others in highly-paid jobs, who depend on public transport, prefer to commute in AC buses in the Karnataka capital. Though this class of employees can afford own transport, long commuting distances, frequent traffic snarls and inadequate or even lack of parking space make them opt for public transport.
The other reason is the non-avaialbility of residential accommodation in the vicinity of Electronic City, the IT hub of Bangalore. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is operating as many as 500 air-conditioned buses, most of them to the Electronic City and the airport, in Bangalore.
The KSRTC provides monthly bus passes to commuters at Rs 3,000 a month. In contrast, the officer said, 60 percent people of Hyderabad’s total population depend on their own transport like cars and two-wheelers to commute between home and workplace.
Because a majority of software professionals and others live not far from the IT hub, commuting by their own transport is neither cumbersome nor expensive for them. Hence the poor patronage for AC buses here. If AC buses are to run in profits here, it should have enticing schemes, he said.

Andhra Pradesh BJP chief on terror hit list

The Andhra Pradesh police on Sunday claimed that if the terror gang busted by the Karnataka police had executed its plan, it would have created a havoc during the ensuing Ganesha festival.
The AP police suspect that the terror gang had planned to kill BJP legislator and state party president G Kishan Reddy and two Telugu Desam Party and one BJP corporators to create mayhem during the festival. This was revealed by Obaidur Rehman, a Hyderabadi student arrested by the Karnataka police from Chandrayangutta locality.
Besides Kishan Reddy, three GHMC corporators — Raja Singh and Singireddy Srinivas Reddy of Mangalhat and Saidabad divisions (TDP) and K Sahadev Yadav of Kurmaguda division (BJP) — were on the hit list. The arrested terror suspects told the Bangalore police that a special team from Karnataka was supposed to attack the corporators in Hyderabad.
It is believed that the suspects did a recce of Reddy’s house in Saidabad a few months ago and also followed his movements closely, sources said. However, this was not the first time that recce was conducted by terror groups to eliminate Kishan Reddy.
The gang wanted to kill the four leaders because of their right wing connections. The gang believed that the four leaders were fomenting religious hatred targeting Muslims in the communally sensitive Saidabad and surrounding localities. Singh, who runs a local religious TV channel and Yadav, were the suspects in communal clashes that broke during Hanuman Jayanti in the old city in April.
The violent clashes between two communities in Kurmaguda following desecration of religious places led to enforcement of curfew in Saidadad and Madannapet station areas, where several houses of minorities were targeted. Eventually, four Hindus were arrested on charges of desecrating a temple with an intention to trigger communal violence.

Cyberabad cops to intensify drive against drunken driving

Police have decided to tighten the drive against drunken driving in Cyberabad following last week’s attempt by a group of youngsters to kidnap a girl from the University of Hyderabad campus.
Sources in the department said a directive was issued to further intensify the drive soon after the incident.
The police officials, however, pointed out that they had been conducting the drive in Cyberabad limits for some time now and there was nothing much to read in the latest development.
“We take cases of drunken driving very seriously. This (drive) will be taken up every day and right now, almost 7-8 cases are booked at every police station regularly,” explained a senior police official on condition of anonymity.
According to him, the drive would be intensified during weekends. The five youngsters, accused in the attempted kidnap case, were allegedly in an inebriated condition at the time of the assault.
Several students, who rescued the girl in question, told City Express that the five were drunk and blamed the security guards for letting them inside the campus.
Many girls on the campus are furious that drunken boys were being let off easily and felt that something had to be done to dispel the notion that the university was “safe” for boozing on weekends.
“If youngsters can come into the university in an inebriated condition just like that, it shows the appalling conditions here,” said Promit M, a student of UoH.
The isolated and vast open space in the university is considered a “perfect getaway” for youngsters to booze and have “fun”, several girls complained.
“Many go out at night to drink, and even drunk people come into the university at night. It is like a haven for them. Many are out on vehicles as well,” said a student who wished to remain anonymous.
As for the police, one official said they were doing their best by levying hefty fines, seizing vehicles and conducting counselling for the culprits.
“We conduct counselling so that the offenders do not repeat the same. The fine amounts are also very high, and we will also tighten our enforcement,” he said.
Although he did not specify whether checks will be increased near UoH, he mentioned that there were ‘special orders’, which hinted that the incident may have led to the issuing of the order.

Pawan Kalyan in love with Danah Marks?

Power star Pawan Kalyan, who turned 42 yesterday, is making it to the headlines for all wrong reasons. The actor, who is said to have parted his ways with his wife Renu Desai, has a live-in relationship with his Teen Maar co-star Danah Marks. The Tollywood star even has alleged love child with the actress.
Pawan Kalyan met Danah Marks on the sets of movie Teen Maar, which was a remake of Love Aaj Kal and he reportedly fell in love with her. “Pawan and Danah fell in love on the sets of Teen Maar and have been living together. They are now the parents of a three-month-old baby girl,” Times of India quotes a source as saying.
According to the TOI reports, Pawan Kalyan and Danah Marks have been living together in a house on Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills. Their neighbours say that they have seen Danah taking the baby in a stroller for a walk. They even say that she gets along well with Pawan’s two children, who shuttle between Pune and Hyderabad and often stay with Pawan and Danah.
Meanwhile, the source also says that Pawan Kalyan and his second wife Renu Desai had been estranged for a long time. The couple has already officially divorced, and Renu has been living separately in Pune. Although their close friends and families tried to get them to reconcile in the interest of the two children, they decided to part their ways.

Salman Khan's Advice For 'Zanjeer'

It is known news that Ram Charan is currently juggling his time between three of his projects and one among them is very prestigious. Well, it happens to be his Bollywood debut and it is also the remake of the classic hit of Bollywood ‘Zanjeer’ which had the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Pran.

Now, it is heard that some brakes have been applied for the remake since Arjun Rampal who was reprising the role of Pran has walked out. But here is the more challenging part. It is heard that the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who has been a guide to Charan in Bollywood has reportedly recommended Sanjay Dutt as replacement.

Well, Sanju Baba is Sallu’s close friend and with Salman’s recommendation, Sanjay is under serious consideration for the role. That is indeed a good news for the film but it may not be for Charan, say a few. Well, Sanjay is a heavyweight in Bollywood in both personality and in brand value so the challenge for Charan is, he has to prove his presence and at the same time look compatible physically with Sanjay onscreen. This should be interesting.

Can Tamil Thambis Enjoy Silly Telugu Comedy?

The common phrase heard from many Telugu audiences while watching a dubbed Tamil movie is ‘Arva Paithyam’. Apparently, most of the flicks tend to have that eccentricity which is hard to match the sensibilities of the Telugu audience. So what happens when a Telugu film releases in a dubbed version in Tamil.
Well, that seems to be the discussion happening after hearing this news. It is heard that the blockbuster hit ‘Yama Donga’ would be released in Tamil in Kollywood circuit. As such, this is a big movie for Telugus due to Junior NTR and Mohan Babu element. But it would not be that great for Tamil in terms of star power.
Sources say this is being released as pilot as the goal is to release ‘Baadshah’ during the Pongal time. As such, ‘Yama Donga’ also scored in the comedy department but the big question is, can Tamil Thambis really enjoy our comedy? Just like we brand their comedies as ‘Arva Paithyam’ we need to see if they will coin a term after watching ‘Yama Donga’ in Tamil.

Kodandaram Attends BJP Rally, TRS Upset

The rift between Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao and Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram seems to have widened further, with the latter attending the rally of Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi on Monday.
Kodanda took part in the three-day fast taken up by BJP state unit president G Kishan Reddy at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and extended solidarity with the fasting leader. He joined Kishan Reddy’s attack on the Congress party for its indecisiveness on the Telangana statehood demand.
“Congress president Sonia Gandhi should apologize to the people of Telangana for going back on the statement issued on December 9, 2009 and dodging the issue since then,” Kishan Reddy said adding that the BJP would reiterate its stand on supporting the Telangana Bill if introduced in Parliament any time.
Interestingly, even Telangana employees JAC leaders also attended the BJP rally and supported Kishan Reddy. They reminded that it was on the same day 70 years ago that the then Nizam government had introduced Mulki rules for the benefit of locals.
TRS leaders, however, expressed view that Kishan Reddy’s fast was aimed at gaining political mileage and nothing would come out of it.
“If the BJP leader is so sincere, why should he take up fast only for three days? He should do it indefinitely,” a TRs leader said.

'Sudigadu' Changes Dasari's 'Sudi'!!

The recent release ‘Sudigadu’ has been creating some major cracker at the box office and this has already registered the biggest hit in Allari Naresh’s career. And it is not just Naresh who is jumping in joy but all those associated with it who are going great guns. One among them is Dasari Narayana Rao.
According to reports, the film is going to touch almost Rs 20 crores within few days. It is rocking in the US market. Whoever has bought ‘Sudigadu’ have become ‘Sudigallu’. And the interesting bit is that Dasari Narayana Rao has reportedly bought Nizam rights for the movie and has got five times his investment.
Similarly, he also bought ‘Julayi’ rights for entire AP for 24 crores and it is heard that he got Rs 40 crores share. In this process, Dasari has scored two back to back jackpot profits and all his ‘Daridram’ in movie business has been wiped out. Now that his time seems to be running right, maybe Dasari should try and direct a film.

Kohli, Dhoni steer India to 5-wicket win over NZ, clinch series 2-0

Young Virat Kohli and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni held their nerves under pressure with fighting knocks as India survived a few jitters before scripting a comfortable five-wicket win over New Zealand to complete a 2-0 whitewash, in Bangalore on Monday. Set a target of 261, the Indians were in a spot of bother at 166 for five at one stage with three wickets falling in quick succession before Kohli and Dhoni steered the team home at the Chinnaswamy stadium with an entire day to spare.
Dhoni smashed a six off spinner Jeetan Patel to finish off the match in style and in the process became the most successful captain by winning 14 Test matches at home, eclipsing Mohammed Azharuddin’s record of 13 wins.
As the ball sailed over deep mid-wicket, scenes of wild celebrations erupted at the stadium while the Indian players stood at the dressing room to applaud the heroics of Dhoni (48) and Kohli (51), who put on an unbeaten 96-run partnership to guide the team home.
New Zealand made an emphatic comeback in the final session picking up wickets of Sachin Tendulkar, Cheteshwar Pujara and Suresh Raina in quick succession, which jolted the Indian dressing room for a brief period.
Tendulkar lost his middle stump playing across the line on an uneven pitch and Pujara was snapped up by Daniel Flynn at forward short leg.
Raina, who had pulled out India from a hole in the first innings with his magnificent 55, threw his wicket with a reckless shot as he was castled by Patel.
Dhoni and Kohli, however, took the attack to the New Zealand’s territory, treating Patel and Tim Southee mercilessly, hitting boundaries at will.
Dhoni and Kohli particularly targetted Patel to unsettle him as he was getting some turn and bounce on the uneven fourth days’s wicket.
A six by Dhoni off Patel infact prompted Taylor to bring in paceman Tim Southee who put brakes on the duo for some time.
Earlier, a steady and unbeaten 64-run stand between Pujara and Tendulkar helped India reach 147 for 2 at tea, needing 114 runs more to win on a rain-hit fourth day.
Pujara was batting at 41 and Tendulkar at 23 when the play stopped and did not resume resulting in an early tea break.
Resuming the play after lunch, New Zealand pacers Trent Boult and Doug Bracewell bowled a disciplined line, mostly attacking the stumps making it difficult for Tendulkar and Pujara to score freely.
New Zealand pacers had a plan cut out for Tendulkar, making him play most often, as he was not in great form. They had Tendulkar in a spot of bother after the Mumbaikar survived two loud appeals for an LBW off Boult and Bracewell.
Pujara broke the shackles by plundering 12 runs in an over, dispatching Boult for a couple of exquisite boundaries, taking India’s total past 100.
Tendulkar then turned the screws on against Bracewell thumping him for two consecutive boundaries.
Southee, in his second spell after lunch, made most of the uneven bounce in the pitch by swinging and banging in the ball short to make batsmen play awkwardly.
On 37, Pujara got a life as stand-in wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum missed a straightforward stumping chance off Jeetan Patel when India were 134 for two.
Tendulkar unleashed a couple of delectable shots off Southee, first standing tall punching off the backfoot and driving through offside, much to the delight of the boisterous spectators.
Earlier, the openers gave a rollicking start to India’s chase before departing in quick succession as the hosts reached 88 for two at lunch.
Virender Sehwag (38) and Gautam Gambhir (34) put the Kiwi attack to sword to give a perfect start to India with their entertaining stand of 77 in under 12 overs.
As India raced to 77, Taylor brought Patel, who did not disappoint the captain. Patel flummoxed the dangerous Sehwag, who struck seven fours and six, with a flighted ball which disturbed his off stump.
After Sehwag’s dismissal, the runs dried up for India and that brought New Zealand back into the game. It played on the patience of Gambhir and prompted him to fish outside the off-stump losing his wicket to Boult.
In the morning, New Zealand were skittled out for 248 runs setting India a target of 261 to win.
The New Zealand second innings folded after pacer Zaheer Khan claimed wicket of Patel, who hammered two boundaries of the 16 runs scored today in a bid to get some vital runs on the board for Indian batsmen to chase.
Patel was caught behind by Dhoni for a gutsy 22 runs off 27 balls.
Off-spinner R Ashwin was the star bowler for India as he led the attack by scalping five wickets for 69 runs. He was ably supported by Pragyan Ojha and Umesh Yadav, both claimed two wickets each.

Chandrababu Naidu Wasted His Chance To Become A Hero!

Sometimes, Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana makes very interesting comments that make very good headlines for media persons.
On Monday, Narayana turned his attention on Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu to make funny comments.
“Had the TDP president been committed to his stand on the Telangana issue in 2009, he would not have to run around the streets growing his beard and begging for votes. He would have become a hero in the Telangana region. Unfortunately, Naidu has a golden chance to become a hero,” Narayana said, addressing an impressive gathering at Warangal on the conclusion of his Telangana Poru Baata.
The CPI leader came down heavily on the Congress party for betraying Telangana. He said the Telangana state would be a reality only if the Congress party was dumped in Bay of Bengal.
“The party leaders should be burnt in bonfire for dodging the issue all these days. They are worse than those who pick up coal from funeral pyre,” he criticised.

The last few weeks saw a string of birthdays happening and they are of Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Pawan Kalyan. Compared to Chiru’s birthday, Nag’s birthday celebrations happened grandly. More than that, it was Pawan Kalyan’s birthday which was quite extravagant.
Some are saying this must have given Chiru some realization. They state that the megastar must have understood by now how things change when you are not successful. In cinema he not only had respect but also admiration. But after getting into politics nothing of that sort has come to him.
On the other hand, anything below CM is a number 2 position and similarly the number 1 position is PM in centre. In cinema industry, Chiru was number 1 and in other industry ie politics he has gone way below that so media is not caring and not much was mentioned about his birthday or his activities on his special day. The fact of the matter is, media only looks at number 1 and that’s why he was overshadowed by Pawan and Nag.

Why is Esha hiding her boyfriend now?

It is common knowledge in Delhi circles that B-Town newbie Esha Gupta and socialite Feroze Gujral’s son Armaan have been dating for a couple of years now. What strikes one as odd, though, is that the newbie actress has gone mum about their relationship since entering B-Town.
The former Miss India’s dating spree began when she was a Delhi model and the two would be spotted regularly at parties, reveal sources. Since her debut, though, she prefers not to comment on their relationship.
But the telltale signs of the bond remain. A few months ago, at an event at Mehboob Studios, we were witness to the warm exchange between Esha and Armaan’s mom Feroze. Also, a couple of weeks ago, Esha flew to Delhi for a short, two-day break to meet her family, but we hear that it was a twin-purpose visit to meet Armaan and them. When asked to confirm, Esha replied with a terse, “No comment.”

Balakrishna miffed with scripts offered to him

Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna expressed his displeasure on the subjects he has been offered these days by the filmmakers. “Ever since I gave a public statement stating that I will enter active politics, most of the directors and writers are approaching me with either political subjects or high voltage faction scripts which didn’t interest me. For me, Cinema is different and politics is different and they can’t be linked. I have the enthusiasm to try variety characters and I hope God will give me the strength to play all the memorable roles done by my father NTR,” says the actor.
Balayya says the trends he has created in the past become a path for others. “I started the faction trend with Samarasimha Reddy. After that several heroes followed it, as we have the habit of going after success. Likewise, whichever trend I created was later followed by others,” he opined.
Balakrishna’s latest outing Srimannarayana opened to mixed response . With the reports of fans may like this mass flick, the fate of the film will be known only after few days of its run at the Box Office.

YSR and Jagan not all that innocent

YSR Congress Chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy claims that he and his father Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy were totally innocent in the Vanpic case. He has told the CBI that he had never talked to any minister or official when his father was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
He did not ever discuss about his business with his father.
He has also not informed his father about the massive investments being made into his companies by Nimmagadda Prasad and others.
CBI says all are bundle of lies
Jagan, Nimmagadda Prasad, former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, Dharmana Prasada Rao (resigned minister), and IAS officers Manmohan Singh and Samuel have all claimed to be innocent in the Vanpic deal.
CBI has dug deeper into the case and prepared a report to show how all these people were involved in the scam. A Telugu newspaper claims to have got a copy of this report and published it.
According to the report, CBI got evidence to disprove every claim of the accused in the case.
Jagan has claimed that his father was not aware of Nimmagadda’s investments in his companies. Nimmagadda had invested in his company 14 months before Nimmagadda joined the Ras Al Kaima’s Vanpic venture, he added. He has also claimed that the Vanpic agreement was G2G (government to government) and he had nothing to do with the deal. He has also argued that Nimmagadda was not put to loss, because of his investments in Silicon Builders company, owned by his group. He has explained that with the investments made by Nimmagadda, fixed assets were created in infrastructure companies Marvel Infra Structure, Shalom Infra, Janani Infra and Inspire Hotels. He said Silicon Builders had earned profits through sale of these properties. He also said that Nimmagadda has invested Rs. 350 crores which he earned through sale of his shares in Bharati Cements in ‘Sakshi’.
Jagan met Nimmagadda in CM’s camp office
CBI has now gathered evidence that Jagan actually met Nimmagadda Prasad in the Chief Minister’s camp office. This was confirmed by Raja Praturi, financial adviser of Nimmagadda Prasad.
CBI has in this report argued that there was no need for Jagan to meet any official as he had influenced his father. This was evident from the late YSR deciding to permit Nimmagadda get several official favours irregularly. Officials have obliged the then Chief Minister and benefited Nimmagadda.
G2G only to hoodwink government
The G2G was a plan hatched to hoodwink the government and subvert rules, CBI said. Nimmagadda received irregular benefits several times between 2006 and 2009, said CBI. These benefits look more like rewards for his investments in Jagan’s companies, CBI said in this report.
Having been benefited, Nimmagadda has decided to continue the arrangements made earlier and invested Rs. 430 crore in Jagan’s companies even after YSR’s death.
Jagan got benefits – not Nimmagadda
Jagan received heavy financial gains through Nimmagadda’s investments. But Nimmagadda himself has not received any benefit, CBI found.
Nimmagadda has not received any return on his investment of Rs. 57 crore in Silicon Builders and Rs. 20 crore in Carmel Asia Holdings for a long time. Jagan has used most of the investment Nimmagadda made in Silicon Builders for acquiring properties in Hyderabad and Bangaluru. Nimmagadda has made these investments at a time when Vanpic files were briskly moving in government offices.
In 2007, Nimmagadda has diverted Rs. 35 crore to Jagan’s accounts. This money was used to meet the financial requirements of Raghuram Cements. CBI said though there was the possibility of investing in the company directly, Nimmagadda was made to invest, through transfer of shares of Sandur Power Company at a premium price of Rs. 140.
Where are the profits?
CBI has also disputed Jagan’s claim that Nimmagadda had earned profits. The agency said that the profits earned by Nimmagadda were pumped into Sakshi and questioned how then Nimmagadda could be said to have made any profit.
Nimmagadda’s lies
Nimmagadda was a successful entrepreneur. He has purchased sick companies and put life in them and transformed the units into money-spinners. He became a big industrialist, starting life from a very common level.
Nimmagadda while claiming that he was not a small speculative investor, said his investments in Jagan’s companies were strategic and had nothing to do with the Vanpic project. Stating that he got Rs. 560 crore for his investment of Rs. 280 crore in Bharati Cements, Nimmagadda has questioned if an investment that got 100 percent return could be called unwise.
Nimmagadda also argued that Vanpic was a G2G project and he was just a representative of the Ras Al Kaima government and was only answerable to them.
It is my money – government has not lost anything
Nimmagadda also argued that the ‘Build Operate Transfer’ system was applicable only to ports and not industrial corridors. Stating that he had purchased lands for the Industrial Corridor with his own money and it was approved by the state government. He also argued that the state government had not lost anything as it had not made any investment in the Vanpic project.
He also argued that the state government had signed the draft concession agreement he sent and claimed that he was not responsible for the administrative lapses committed by the government.
CBI says it is all scam
CBI is arguing that Nimmagadda had not made any profit out of his investments in Jagati Publications, Silicon Builders, Carmel Asia Holdings and Sandur Power. But Jagan made financial gains through these investments. Stating that Nimmagadda received several official favours irregularly between 2006 and 2009, the agency is arguing that a clear connection between these favours and his investments in Jagan’s companies could be established.
Nimmagadda had no experience
CBI is also questioning how mega projects like Vanpic, Shipyard and Ongole airport were handed over to him though he had no experience in the infrastructure area. CBI is also arguing that G2G system was done away with, half way through. Contrary to the agreement, CBI said lands and concessions were transferred to Vanpic Projects Ltd., in which Nimmagadda owned major shares. YSR has ignored the objections of top officials and bestowed benefits on Nimmagadda.
Mopidevi, Dharmana not innocent either
CBI is arguing that it was not possible for any one to escape his responsibility by stating that he had just implemented the directions of YSR. The report said that Dharmana Prasada Rao who was then Revenue Minister had allotted 18,878 acres to Vanpic though the state cabinet had approved allotment of only 4,000 acres.
CBI has also dismissed the defense of former minister and now jailed Mopidevi Venkata Ramana. Mopidevi has said that Vanpic Project was a cabinet decision and he had simply implemented it. He has claimed that he could not be individually blamed for implementing a cabinet decision.
It was Mopidevi who has sanctioned the Rs. 17,000 crore Vanpic project when he was the minister for Infrastructure and Investments. Vadarevu shipyard and Ongole airport projects were cleared in favour of Nimmagadda with extraordinary swiftness, though he had no previous experience in these areas. CBI has also effectively disputed the claims of innocence by senior IAS officers. The report which was leaked by a prominent Telugu newspaper might turn things unfavourable to the ministers and officers facing charges.

Nandyala MP SPY Reddy withdraws resignation

Nandyala Congress MP SPY Reddy who has resigned to his Lok Sabha membership, protesting against release of water from the Srisailam reservoir into Nagarjuna Sagar to the disadvantage of the people of Rayalaseema has withdrawn his resignation after talking to the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy here on Saturday.
Speaking to the media after his meeting with the Chief Minister, Reddy said the Chief Minister has agreed to release 0.5 tmc of water to Kurnool and he had hence decided to withdraw his resignation.
He said earlier that he would not have objected to the release of 5 cusecs of water and has decided to resign because the government has decided to release 25 cusecs to Krishna delta.
After the MP’s protest, ministers Erasu Pratapa Reddy and T G Venkatesh have also explained the water scarcity prevailing in Kurnool district. They told him that their district would face serious problem if water was discharged into Nagarjuna Sagar from Sriosailam.
Kiran Kumar Reddy has quickly solved the problem as he would be participating in the Indiramma Baata in Kurnool district from September 3.
SPY Reddy, a three time MP from Nandyala in Rayalaseema has resigned from the Lok Sabha on Friday, protesting against release of Krishna water from the Srisailam reservoir into Nagarjuna Sagar dam, to benefit the farmers of Krishna delta in the Andhra region. He said he would also not hesitate to quit the Congress party.
Reddy an industrialist has sent his resignation letter through his PA to the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and reached here on Friday night.
Speaking to the media on Friday night, he said there was no use in continuing in the Congress party, when the Chief Minister does not pay heed to MPs’ requests.
“I am answerable to my people who are in dire need of water. I met Kiran Kumar Reddy thrice and requested him not to release water downstream until it reached a sufficient level. But he ignored my request” he told the media. SPY Reddy has asked the CM not to release water downstream until the level in Srisailam reached 845 feet, which he claims would have touched in the next 5 days. The government released water when the levelat Srisailam was 839 feet, depriving Rayalaseema of its due share, says Reddy.
Farmers in the Krishna delta, comprising Krishna, Guntur, Prakasham and West Godavari, supported by TDP and CPI have been agitating for release of water to save withering crops. Bowing to the pressure, the government has released 21,000 cusecs from Srisailam into Nagarjunasagar from where it would reach the Krishna delta.
