Delhi Belly Movie Review
The film is about the troubled journalist Tashi (Imran Khan) and his gang that comprises of photographer Nitin (Kunaal Roy Kapoor) and cartoonist Arup (Vir Das). Together they live in a not-so-happening flat in Delhi. Tashi is all set to marry his flight attendant girlfriend Sonia (Shenaz Treasury) who accidentally gets involved in the smuggling of diamonds which by coincidence gets exchanged with Nitin’s stool sample. From thereon it’s chase and run situations mixed up with some budding love. The love brews up as Menaka (Poorna Jagannathan) who is on the verge of getting a divorce has a crush on Tashi.
The film ‘Delhi Belly’ as expected is filled with adult content and outrageous hidden actions that were made so obvious to understand for a mature viewer. The film has some really tainted dialogues woven in English and Hindi equally. The trendy set of words used by the lads in the film truly reflects a common urban language that youngsters normally use in Delhi.
The cast of the film has done an impeccable job. Imran Khan will certainly leave an impression with his-out-of-the-league act in the film. Kunal Roy Kapoor too is worth appraisal but renowned stand-up comedian now turned an actor Vir das truly stands out. He is slowly and steadily proving his worth and ‘DB’ actually proves the kind of caliber that he has. Talking about the female cast Shenaz is impressive whereas Poorna is someone to look out for in future.
Director Abhinay Deo and cinematographer Jason West of ‘Rock On!!’ fame have innovatively showcased a very contrasting picture of Delhi. From hot spots of the city perfectly matched up with the old city. The rural-meet-urban look might well work in their favor. Director Abhinay Deo has done a far improved job from his last failed attempt ‘Game’ and proves his mettle as a story teller. Ram Sampath who impressed with some cool tracks in his last film ‘Love ka the end’ has done an impeccable job with his variety of songs in ‘DB’. The songs owe a special credit for setting up the perfect mood for the film.
All in all the film is a great experience especially for the lovers of fast-paced upbeat film that’s sprinkled with great humor and thrills. Not for those who are fans of multi-starrer, no brainer-run-of-the-mill comedies. If you are young and have a knack for a good laugh for some witty ‘adult’ humor ‘Delhi Belly’ is just your kind of film. Watch it with your bunch of friends for a memorable experience.
